Public Houses and Inns of Uttoxeter.
Finally i have a list of Inns and Public Houses of my home town which has taken me a while to collate.
The list is by no means complete as research is ongoing and if there are any establishments i have missed please get in touch and i'll update my records.
I've been researching through the census's, newspapers, articles and other documents of Uttoxeter to gather a list of the public houses and inns throughout the history of my home town.
There is more research to be done to get a more indepth and accurate history but here is the list so far:
Although no names are mentioned according to records there were 6 inn keepers between 1530-1650.
The following names of Inns and Public houses are recorded in various records of Uttoxeter.
CROWE AND GATE
GEORGE AND DRAGON
HOPE AND ANCHOR
JUNCTION STREET - EAST STREET
LEIGHTON AND IRON WORKS CLUB then BAMFORDS
NEW STAR INN
THE OLD CROWNE-possibly the Crown
OLD FELLOWS ARMS
PLUME OF FEATHERS
RED COW - although not actually in town still named
SHREWSBURY AND TALBOT
THE STAR - possibly Old Star inn
WELLINGTON-also known as Duke Of Wellington
I have collated addresses and the names of the occupants for all the public houses and inns but not for all the census years as yet - it's an ongoing project.
I hope you find the information of interest.
